V3.0 The Fighter Class

V3.0 The Fighter class

Design thoughts: There are in fantasy a plethora of melee fighters and there will most likely be quite a few versions of fighters as well. The class Fighter is however reserved as the class for those specializing fighting with a single target in the same area. Fighters of this type is more effective against a single troll than four weaker goblins and hence should prefer single targets (regardless of how powerful they are).

This style of fighting makes the fighter suitable for the roleplaying part of heroic sword for hire and lone dragon slayer.

I would like to contrast the fighter against the soldier. In perception I se the soldier as a class taking there strength from their numbers, a tight phalanx formation is powerful since they help each other and hence together becomes more than the sum of the separate entities.

In game terms I’d like to approximate this by having the fighter being a, between offence and defense, balanced fighter against single targets in melee and the Soldier being a vexer, reducing the enemies capabilities knowing that an ally will surely use this advantage and kill the enemy. More on this when the class Soldier is posted.

Several other classes are melee fighters with different flavors; Scholars, Merchants etc and will be detailed in other posts.

T1 Fighter

Design thoughts: The basic balanced fighter. Have the possibilities to build a balanced offense and defense. Works best against a single target. The fighter is the blade for hire conceptually.
Combat role: Melee target “Flavor”: Balanced
Combat cards: 11 and 12
Roleplay: Athletics and intimidation, perhaps bargaining as well.
L2P: Select a target and grind it down using strong attacks and strong defense as needed. You will get hit since you are in combat but not as much as the barbarian if you play your cards right.

T2 Fighter

Design thoughts: The basic balanced fighter. Have the possibilities to build a balanced offense and defense. Works best against a single target. The fighter is the blade for hire conceptually.
Combat role: Melee target “Flavor”: Balanced
Combat cards: 30, 52 and 112
Roleplay: Athletics and intimidation, perhaps bargaining as well.
L2P: Select a target and grind it down using strong attacks and strong defense as needed. You will get hit since you are in combat but not as much as the barbarian if you play your cards right.

T3 Fighter

Design thoughts: The basic balanced fighter. Have the possibilities to build a balanced offense and defense. Works best against a single target. The fighter is the blade for hire conceptually.
Combat role: Melee target “Flavour”: Balanced
Combat cards: 51, 81 and 113
Roleplay: Athletics and intimidation, perhaps bargaining as well.
L2P: Select a target and grind it down using strong attacks and strong defense as needed. You will get hit since you are in combat but not as much as the barbarian if you play your cards right.
